Set your scope, then identify the main idea · HESI A2

3 min + practice · Original foundation lesson

This guide supports selected academic foundations for the HESI Admission Assessment(A2). It is not a HESI Exit Exam or NCLEX review, and it is not a complete admissions course or an official practice examination. Elsevier’s public sixth-edition review contents name math, reading, vocabulary, grammar, biology, chemistry, and anatomy/physiology. That contents list is a preparation reference, not proof that every school requires every section. TCC explicitly distinguishes sections offered from requirements determined by individual programs. Gateway identifies program-specific choices and warns that recommended section times are pacing guidelines. Confirm your own program’s sections, timing, calculator rules, attempt policy and score criteria before treating any plan as applicable.

The attempted 2025 faculty-guide URL did not yield a usable document in this acquisition. Its failed response is retained, and no timer or threshold from an indexed excerpt is presented as a national rule. Our twelve units are real sections of this offline guide; they are not twelve production courses or a 200-question bank. The fourteen-day schedule uses local section, question and card identifiers. Any omitted science section can be treated as optional academic study when your program does not require it. For reading, the main idea is the point that organizes the details. Consider an original miniature example: a town keeps familiar street names but adds verified location coordinates to records that were hard to distinguish. A summary about clearer identification explains both actions. A summary about building new roads does not, even if roads are the general topic. Ask which candidate statement covers the important details without adding a project the passage never describes. Then test the summary against the whole paragraph rather than choosing the first appealing sentence.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Original passage: A seed archive once listed each collection under a familiar plant name. Staff found that a familiar name could refer to different plants in different regions. The new catalog links that name to a checked specimen and a collection record. Entries with uncertain identities are marked for further review. Visitor displays keep familiar names alongside verified identifiers, so visitors can still recognize the labels they know. The archive has not changed its storage capacity. Which statement best expresses the main idea?

  1. The linked specimens and records improve identity tracking, while the visitor labels retain familiar names. That statement explains both major strands. Storage expansion, reduced checking and a declaration of failure conflict with or exceed the passage.
Answer: The archive improves identity tracking while preserving usable familiar labels.
Compare the other answer choices
The archive replaces specimen checking with a simpler system of familiar names.

The catalog adds checked specimens and verified identifiers; it does not replace checking with familiar names.

The archive increases storage space before accepting more seed collections.

The passage explicitly says storage capacity did not change; this substitutes a different project for the catalog work.

The archive treats unresolved labels as evidence that the collections have failed.

Uncertain identities are marked for review, not declared failed collections. This turns uncertainty into a stronger unsupported conclusion.

Try it, then explain it.

Complete a short set without looking at the example. After each answer, explain which evidence or rule supports your decision and why the alternatives do not fit.
