ATI TEAS: Study Guide & Free Lessons

Short lessons, worked examples, and practice that connects.

01
Orientation

Current Version 7 scope and an honest learning claim

ATI’s Test of Essential Academic Skills assesses academic foundations for health-science applicants. Its current Version 7 structure has four areas: Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. ATI lists 170 total items with 209 minutes of allocated testing time. The outline distinguishes 150 scored items from 20 unscored pretest items. Those are two different counts of the same examination, not competing versions of its length.

Reading

Read claims with their conditions

Reading begins with what the words actually establish. A main-purpose answer should cover the central action and its relevant limits. An inference should follow from supplied statements without importing an attractive outside story. ATI’s outline includes summarising, making inferences, interpreting purpose and using textual evidence. That scope supports the learning target; the following notice and deductions are newly authored, not adapted ATI questions.

Reading

Connect sentences and integrate a service table

A sentence can add an example, explain a cause, mark a contrast or narrow an earlier statement. Naming its role requires reading both the sentence and its neighbours. In the original pair “Digital copies remain available. Unlike the wall display, they can be searched by date, ” the second sentence contrasts a feature. It neither explains why the repairs began nor claims that every collection has been digitised. The contrast is local to the two stated forms of access.

Mathematics

Ratios, percentage bases and units

A ratio compares quantities in a stated order. A part-to-part ratio and a part-to-whole fraction are different descriptions. In a new workshop example, red and clear materials have an additive-volume ratio 2:7. A 900 mL batch contains nine equal parts, so each part is 100 mL; red accounts for 200 mL and clear for 700 mL. Red:clear is 2:7, but red:total is 2:9. Multiplying the total by 2/7 would silently change the meaning of the comparison.

Mathematics

Summarise and audit numerical records

The arithmetic mean is the sum divided by the number of observations. The median is found from the ordered data: the middle value for an odd count, or the average of the two middle values for an even count. These operations summarise different aspects of a record. A data question may ask for either, so choose the specified operation before deciding which answer looks typical.

Science

Feedback and selective movement

Physiology questions often describe a system rather than ask for an isolated word. Homeostasis involves regulation around a reference range. In a negative-feedback model, a change triggers a response that counteracts the deviation. A sensor detects a value, a control centre compares information with the reference, and an effector produces a response. “Negative” describes that relationship; it does not mean harmful, absent or numerically less than zero.

Science

Identify variables and conserve atoms

A testable explanation leads to a prediction and an observation that can bear on it. In an experiment, distinguish the manipulated input, the measured outcome and factors deliberately held constant. These roles are not determined by which number is largest. A precise outcome description states what is recorded, in which units and over what interval. In this pilot, the scientific-method framework comes from a primary academic textbook; each study design and numerical example is original.

English and language usage

Edit subject agreement and clause boundaries

English editing combines meaning with sentence structure. For subject–verb agreement, identify the head of the subject phrase rather than the nearest noun. In the original sentence “The label on the boxes identifies the collection, ” label is singular; boxes belongs to a modifying phrase. The singular verb identifies agrees with label. In “The labels on the box identify the collection, ” labels is plural, so identify is the appropriate simple-present form.

English and language usage

Make a paragraph’s relation explicit

Paragraph revision asks more than whether a sentence is grammatically possible. The wording should connect the intended ideas without inventing a causal claim, an example or an evaluation. ATI’s English outline includes audience, clarity and well-organised paragraphs. This unit uses a small original draft to practise one part of that wider writing task, not to replace vocabulary, spelling or broader composition study.

Study planning

Retrieve and plan remaining study

The fourteen-day schedule links only to the real local units, cases and cards in this package. It begins with current scope and reading, introduces quantitative tools before data summaries, then studies the biology and inquiry units. Sentence editing precedes paragraph revision, and the mixed-review unit follows its prerequisite branches. The schedule’s minutes are editorial estimates. They are not measured completion times or a claim that two weeks is enough for every applicant.

Selected Version 7 academic foundations across Reading, Mathematics, Science and English and Language Usage. This is not full content coverage, an exam-weighted or full-length mock, an alternate-format simulator, a clinical-care guide or an admissions guarantee. All passages, tables, records and cases are independently authored; no secure ATI items or textbook examples/diagrams are reproduced. Qualified educator review remains pending.
